Safety Practices
Child safety is our top priority at Big Brothers Big Sisters, and we maintain a zero tolerance of child abuse of any kind. Big Brothers Big Sisters is the recognized leader in providing the safest, highest quality one-to-one mentoring programs to youth nationally. Our safety measures include:

• Professionally trained and experienced staff.
• Thorough assessment and screening of all volunteers, including:
  • In-depth, one-to-one interviews with our Enrollment & Match Specialists.
  • Reference checks (non-familial).
  • Background checks through:
    • Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry.
    • Wisconsin Department of Justice.
    • Wisconsin Circuit Court.
    • VolunteerSelect, a national background screening program.
• Ongoing, regular contact with all volunteers, children and their parents from our Match Support Specialists.
• Reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect, as mandated by Wisconsin child safety laws.
• Child safety education and resources offered to all parents and volunteers in our program.
