Go Back to School and
Make a Difference

Site-based Mentoring helps make school and learning fun.

In the Site-based Program, all activities take place at a school or community center mentoring site. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee has eight mentoring locations, two in Waukesha and six in Milwaukee. Space is limited, and enrollment is seasonal.

After acceptance into the program, you'll be matched with a child at one of our sites. During the school year, site-based "Bigs" and "Littles" meet at the same time each week for 1-2 hours. In the summer, they maintain contact through phone calls, e-mail or mail.
(You must be at least 18 years old to be a Site-based Big.)

On-site staff help plan your activities.
Depending on the site you choose, you and your Little might spend your time on both academic and recreational activities. Here are just a few of the activities at site:

  • Do homework
  • Shoot hoops
  • Create art
  • Jump rope or play Four Square
  • Read books
  • Play board games

Real Stories

TraVon and Julian
TraVon and Julian

Big Brother TraVon and Little Brother Julian meet every week at Hartford Avenue School, an elementary school on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM).

Like Julian, TraVon was raised by a single mom, and he knows the importance of a male role model. When they're not shooting hoops, the two enjoy just sitting and talking. TraVon, a student at UWM, shares his college experiences with Julian to encourage his college aspirations.
